Our Transplant Adventure
From the beginning …
It is hard to tell where the beginning happens to be. Is it 13 years ago when we were told to expect to need a transplant in under 5 years. Is it 5 years ago when we were told it might have to be an emergency then. Or is it 2 years ago when we were told to be ready it is any month. Let’s just say we have been on this roller coaster ride for a while but we’ve had some good segments of stability.
Devon often attributes the fact that he stays active for keeping him off the list this long. He is probably right. We have such wonderful friends and family that have helped out and made this a really rewarding journey.
Community
We have had great support from our medical teams that you can not believe how great these are for us. Along with work and the church. Further, social networks for other CF and lung recipients have been so helpful.
Friends
We have a great group of friends that have done so much. I am really thankful for all the help they have given over the last few years and through this. I don’t know how we would have done this without them.
Family
They say family is always there; this showed us that family isn’t just there. They are on the journey with us and experience their own needs and feelings throughout this journey. Because the transplant center is in Edmonton, it has been so lovely to get to see other families.

It’s a beautiful thing to have lungs that allow you to breathe air and legs that allow you to climb mountains, and it’s a shame that sometimes we don’t realize that that’s enough.
The Transplant Surgery Team
It was a wonderful thing to be the 1000 lung transplant at this center for our surgery team. Shows just how many people are being helped today.
The Transplant Recovery Team
This team helped us through all the recovery and healing and figuring out medications. Each person is unique in what the right numbers are.
